My daily driver has a 4.6 Rv8 in it, no need to try and convert me to the sound of a V8 rumble.
A "proper" engine would set that project off perfectly. Is there enough space in that already tight bay to fit a v8 in or will it involve some more engineering?

any engine available to the e36 will fit, and any engine thats been fitted to an e36 will fit, that includes the V8, and even the v12...the v8 needs a fettle though, it needs the oil pump modified, and the sump modified, also the O/S exhaust manifold is a tight fit.
I've got a 3.9 RV8 in my Granada Coupe, and the sound is just awsome, but its all mouth and no trousers

The Rv8 is lacking power compaired to a modern v8. Plenty of torque though and there is always the option to bung on a couple of turbos (or stroke it to 5.2l)
Seeing what you have done to the shell I have no doubt you can do the mods to fit a v8.
What does a good low mileage BMW v8 cost?

I am really envious of your engineering ability!

lets say I pay £650 for a 540i manual, that gives me an engine, box, and all associated wireing, exhaust etc.
Probably crawl back maybe £50 in parts, £150 for the hulk over the weigbridge, £30 for the wheels, £150 for the 1.9 in mine, £20 for the auto box, £60 for the cat, means I could actually get all the bits I need for £190...would be silly not to really.

A lot of wiring, x2, 2 ecus, 2 throttle cables, 2 air flow meters, 2 lambda sensore, 2 throttle position sensors, = 1 big head ache

I had no idea you could get a 540 for so little. Whatcha waiting for?

(but would it be worth the headache to say you have a v12 'scort?)
