I personally could not name a Womble but I can tell you that Mike Batt made a shed load of money by writing and promoting the records (can't tell I use to set the weekly pop quiz down the local - can you)

So, who's your favourite womble then, Alan?
I actually liked Tomsk - he was a bit dim, but friendly and useful in a crisis (rather like meself

)
Anyone else noticed how Orinoco wore the same as Tom Baker's Doctor Who?
Tom Baker's Doctor Who

What was your favourite Womble then JPB?

I'd have to go for Tobermory as he was a sort of Womblish alternative to the late Fred Dibnah, a great improviser and talented engineer.
On the other hand, I feel a tremendous empathy with Wellington, he's very much like me, but with a bigger nose.
I had a bit of a thing for the school teacher womble too; Miss Adelaide.
Funniest Womble must have been Stepney - with the dreadlocks - whose snout was used as the pattern for the gear lever surround that featured in various BL products we both know well:
Awww bother! Now I've gone and mentioned cars in the off-topic section, sorry.

A friend of my wife saw a Wombles (singing group) concert in the 70s.
After she went back stage to meet them. They (of course) didn't speak but handed out photos and gave cuddles - her memory of the meeting was of the overwhelming and distinctive smell of body odour, which if you think about it isn't that surprising, men wearing a big woolly costume and gigging around under spotlights for an hour.
She wasn't that keen on them after that meeting......
