Indeed not, 'cos that there Maxi is officially the coolest car in the whole world, ever. It could only be cooler if you had Horace Andy on the back seat, singing live to you as you drive, though you'd probably need a caravan to accommodate Massive Attack if you wanted to hear any of the stuff he did with them.

Saying that, yes, you must buy a caravan. Here's a statistic that I just made up which, thanks to the amazingly fickle resource that is the interweb, is certain to be adopted as hard fact by this time tomorrow:

51.7% of the owners of Austin Maxis used their Maxis to pull a caravan.
Here's 17.93% of the proof:

And, in case you haven't yet had to pop out to the bathroom, this should do the trick:

Here's my current fleet:

A 280CE ('project wedding') that's very much a work in progress at the moment. 97K miles, white velour interior (very '80s).

A 230E saloon. 83k miles, loads of receipts (including the original sales receipt for £13k in 1985), generally in very nice nick. Done nothing to it except change the oil so far.

Sorry - spotted this and cant resist posting a Maxi for sale nearby Newcastle upon Tyne. Not looked closely but it looks worthy from a drive by, and only 19000 miles aleged:

Went and had a quick walked around the car today - it looks really well, straight & honest. Gaps right, paint rather good, interior stunning. Well recommended (at least if you want a Maxi) even if the price is a bit strong. There was also a chrome bumper (but not tax exempt) BGT there but that was (in my opinion) not a patch on the Maxi. Reposting this over to the For Sales for good measure.

:o Mk one-and-a-half HLS, the rarest of the rare! (More Maxi 2 HLSs were sold, and they're not, IMHO, quite as cool as this, with its chrome plated bits here & there).

Looks like the suspension needs either 1) more nitrogen ('orrible job involving removing its displacers one by one and drilling each to take a Schrader valve) or 2) a simple pump up on the fluid side, sadly, in a little-used car, it's more likely that the diaphragms in its displacers have leaked gas into the fluid and that's a job for number 1 from above as, if it's been standing a while, number two could burst a diaphragm. On t'other hand, the shell looks straight enough but it's a bit pricey with the suspension as is.
Would I though? Yes, but then I have a Dalek (Hydrolastic [Hydragas in this car] pump) and a source of ready converted bottles with valves. Hmm.... Knowing my luck, it'll be a manual one. :(

Nice find all the same. :D

Just read through the 16 pages, some really nice cars on here, heres a few pics of my daily imp,its been restored for over 7 years now and being used everyday has taken its toll what with the tons on salt the local council insist on throwing down as soon as the temperature drops!
I used it in the snow last year and with proper snow tyres it was awesome.
