Assuming you are going like to like (ie turbo diesel - turbo diesel) then it should be a weekends work. It's been a REALLY long time since I have done much work on transits but I seem to remember the diff being a different ratio on the non-turbo version.
You could always go crazy and fit the 2.9 cosworth v6 from a scorpio. It fits perfectly ;)

You will need a few other modifications too, and don't forget the essential go fast stripes.

Why fit a crude old donkey like the German V6 when BMW, Toyota, GM, and of course Ford themselves, have loads of much more efficient v8s that can be had for chump change from breakers these days? If a job is worth doing, it's worth overdoing..
:D

If you are changing type of engine then there are lots of other things to do to get the electronics to work properly.
Have you tried "le salvage yard" to see what a transit of the same model costs with no engine and the steering wheel on the wrong side?

thanks chaps, the chap has been in touch.. he has replaced the engine & it still doesn't work & now he wants even more money for it..i pointed out that even more money for a broken truck was excessive, & i politely made an offer of €3000.. he hasn't replied.. ive found several in ready to work condition for the same money..

Why don't you do what all English builders do? look on autotrader for the cheapest transit you can find, buy it and drive it until it is seized by the fuzz for no tax / insurance / mot then repeat. ;)
