ford galaxy
Re: ford galaxy
Do you have 2 keys? If you do then you can program a new fob yourself. I can dig out the instructions if you can't find them with google. You can put a replacement fob bit on to your cut key. There is a "chip" (either a glass cylinder or black square depending on the model of key fob) which you will need to swap over for the ignition or you can program the new chip too if your car is on the earlier ECU (later ones need a dealer to program new keys. I can't remember the change over year off the top of my head i'm afraid)

Re: ford galaxy
update... still havent fixed the key problem but now the aircon is only working on speeds one & two then when i switch it up to three or four it turns off the aircon... any ideas
Re: ford galaxy
Do you mean the blower fan or just the a/c?
They are well documented for melting the contacts inside the speed control knob. You could dismantle and try to fix it or spend a fiver from your handy local scrappy and get another one.

Re: ford galaxy
the fan works fine, its the aircon that cuts out..any suggestions are welcome
Re: ford galaxy
A couple of things spring to mind, the clutch on the compressor could be failing under high load or the air-con rad could be obstructed so it is not working efficiently and cutting out when it is unable to condense correctly.
I suppose it is also possible that the pressure is low.
I'm sure others will have other suggestions / ideas

Re: ford galaxy
had a new windscreen fitted today, also while i was picking up the alternator for the mr2,i asked the mechanic to have a look at the aircon, he seems to think there is a problem with the switch etc.. hopefully if we can afford it it will get looked at next week.. meanwhile wht do you chaps think of the Chrysler pt cruiser as a replacement?
Re: ford galaxy
In these modern times, it's often been said that there are no longer any "bad" cars, but if there were, the PT Cruiser would pretty near the top of the list - a hateful, ghastly thing, with all the smoothness and sophistication of a drunk horse & cart on cobbles. It's based on the Chrysler Neon, need I say more?rich. wrote: what do you chaps think of the Chrysler pt cruiser as a replacement?
Just my opinion mind you....
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
Re: ford galaxy
Are there any original parts left on your Galaxy?
The PT cruiser is a total POS. They look like a poor interpretation of a 1950s hearse. The build quality is shockingly poor even by American standards. Their fuel economy is terrible. I could go on but I think you get the point
You would do much better keeping the Galaxy and spending a few € on it than replacing it with a PT.

Re: ford galaxy
Rich, the Cruiser isn't really a proper people carrier in the same way as a Galaxy-type thing. Do the decent thing and if you must get shot of the Ford, replace it with a nice early Espace. Or a real 1950s hearse. It won't rot, it will carry people and it's a Renault so it will never, ever break down or go wrong. Oh wait, I once had to buy a new voltage regulator for one of my R12 estates, £18 that cost me back in 1984, make that "rarely break down...."
