All these modern reincarnations of older cars miss the point though (with the exception of the Defender, which as you point out isn't a reincarnation anyway). I'm not sufficiently interested in modern cars to know whether or not Citroen build a "modern" 2CV, say, but if they did, I'd guess it'd have a cute face, a full length sunroof and all kinds of carefully kooky extras. This is approximately bugger-all to do with the original 2CV, which was (and still is) an immesurably practical and useful vehicle. The fact that its headlamps were on little stalks and people gave them names (ffs) was completely irrelevant to what they were as cars and how they were designed to be used. In fact, if I wanted a modern 2CV, I'd probably buy a Berlingo, which is pretty much the same concept. Not something that some marketing committee had designed to appeal to 30something pretend hippies.
Can you tell I'm not really a fan? :)

If they were going to do a proper "modern beetle" they should do it like this lot with Mercs:
http://www.mechatronik.de/en/engineering.html
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.
