I would be monumentally annoyed if the DVLA asked me to change my chassis number but as long as it gets your toy on the road it can't be bad I suppose. They aren't going to do something daft and insist on a Q plate are they?

No idea TBH at the moment. I know the original registration number and have submitted photographic proof of the vehicle prior to purchase wearing the plates. - and UAZ is uncommon enough to not get mixed up. So I was surprised when they said they could not locate the original chassis number on the system. Unless they never had it to start with???

Was it last on the road pre '85? It could just be (yet another) DVLA cockup. A quick trip to your local office should sort it.................................

I don't understand this. Why would the DVLA have a none-UK vehicle on their database, or were these sold here at some point?

I wish - local offices were all shut last year. Every thing has to be done via post to the Swansea address now. No idea when it was last on the road I actually bought it in 2011 but the owner was out in Thailand and i took 3 years to arrange for collection. No idea how long he had it before that as he'd lost the v5. I do have some photos of it being delivered to his place though wearing the reg number in question.....
