I fully understand what they are attempting but my original point is that there other far more serious issues that the EU ought to be concentrating their efforts on rather than tinkering with the domestic policies of each country - whilst also appreciating that none of us should be losing sleep over the power wattage of a vacuum cleaner - but just remember the more the EU push through - the more power crazy they become and the more power they gain the more stupid policies that they will insist on each country implementing - so don't complain in 10 years time when your EU windscreen wiper blade made from the recycled fibres of a banana skin disintegrates after two wipes

I agree, there are more important issues they could be worrying about. However, on the subject of vacuum cleaners, it's not so long ago that motors were rated at ~ 550-600W on the leading machines and they all worked perfectly fine. My wife is a keen vacuumist and still misses the electrolux 'turbo' that she had a few years ago. We've got through 3-4 since then trying to find something half decent!

I will again recommend a Sebo. Great machines that school cleaners have difficulty in destroying (so they can get out of work?). The great thing is that you can buy parts for them - though you probably won't need to!
I fear the EU is blamed for everything from "having" to fit "E"-marked lights to cars to regulating how curved a banana should be. I suspect that the tabloid press are largely to blame for this and that much of the legislation would have been brought in by our pathetic leaders if we hadn't joined the EU.
Considering there were reports that the EU were going to ban British Sausages (not enough meat in them) and chocolate (not enough cocoa bean in it) - and that we can still buy both items, I don't bother reading the tabloids' EU-bashing reports. Mind you, I gave up on the Daily Wail when Mother died (and, for twenty or more years, only looked at the cartoons!)
I'm disinterested (in the correct sense) about the EU - I wouldn't vote to go in, but I wouldn't vote to go out now we are in! There are a lot of good things done there (but the tabloids ignore that) as well as some bad things (that the tabloids exaggerate).

.....that'll be nothing to do with the EU, that'll be down to classic car spares suppliers doing what they seem to be doing doing more and more often these days, sourcing dreadful rubbish from unidentified generic slave factories in the Far East.........just look at what comes in a Lucas box these days!

yes some things can get better. e.g. 3 cyl cars but.. restricting some things simply does not save energy. the idea being that we do less as can't be bothered taking twice as long to do same job. actual change in energy reduction foe EU is outweighed many times over by increasing demand for energy from russia and China etc
would be better if UN applied pollution taxes to any exports from all countries with rebates foe less emissions.
soon see USA and China exports fall off the map.
back to real world. EU is already making small overtures to keep UK paying into its coffers and will keep changing rules now we are a small satellite nation with no real power or backbone.
what a waste of time defeating hitler etc.
oh well don't get hopes up about UKIP or leaving EU. these empty promises have been made before .sadly majority of voters still vote for the lying buggers ( all main three parties)

UKIP, now there's a total waste of space! A single issue pressure group posing as a political party, I would hazard a guess that they took no part in the debate on vacuums, given their general laziness and poor record of turning up to vote. If anyone's on the Brussels gravy train it's ukip... Farage takes full advantage of EU labour regs to employ a German citizen (his wife....) rather than an unemployed Brit. At least he likes proper beer!

An opportunity missed for sure, domestic machinery and its power consumption being such a hot potato at the moment. Quite right too, after all; what use are welfare reforms and curriculum changes for infants in a world without decent appliances.

He comes across as quite an affable sort - possibly a measure of the extent to which he enjoys a pint? - and would, I'm sure, be able to turn the
hard of thinking with his ready charm, but that of course is why he's potentially quite a dangerous influence on those who are less than than confident in the alternative.
I reckon
the alternative can't be all bad. After all, he drives an A35 van and is fond of animals.

I'm sick of sucking up to these beauroprats. I believe the next move will be to reduce the wattage to 900 and then lower. What do they know about vacuum cleaners half of mainland Europe live in houses that don't have carpets and keep spiders as pets! Bloody scruffy ********! The sooner we kick the EU into touch the better. I blame it on the bloody French!
ps. I won't be posting on the forum until next week sometime. I'm on holiday, in France.

You quite sure that James Hunt died?
