It could be worse! You could say go to the local dealer for that car manufacturer giving
say the correct manufacturer's part number from their own catalogue, and still end up with
the wrong part and be told you are the idiot and as you opened the packaging to check
the part it is no-longer in a returnable state.
It's one thing if it's a British manufactured car but pity those of use who have foreign made
vehicles

No, the real fun is if you decide to upgrade the car and go to the "snob-value" agents for some bits that you need to fit them and are refused the parts because you have the cheapo model. They won't supply because you haven't got a valid VIN for the more expensive version!
One thing that does bug me on eBay is that sellers don't always use a photo of the actual part. EG, they show a generic shock absorber, not the particular one they are selling. Then they say the item fits models X,Y,Z and you know that one of those models is completely different (an exaggeration of the principle might be a head gasket that fits all Metros from 1980 to 2006)
I hardly dare mention the fuel gauge for the little tractor - I have bought no less than three and none work properly (and two don't look like the AC one that was fitted originally). Yet, the sellers insist that they fit all David Brown tractors from 1966 and many Massey Fergusons from about the same time! I f I had time, I would sort them out and post the cure - I suspect the supply voltage is wrong, but the replacement gauges are "balanced" and need three terminals, the originals only need two - try telling a farmer that you need to earth the new gauge and you will hear some interesting language!

Decent little wagon that! But someone appears to have dumped a Beetle on the back of it?
See if that bloke doesn't want the rather cute black Porsche, DIBS on the wheels and the seats please.

Talking of Porsches, I've been dangling for a while but finally fell in love with the Cayman S on the weekend.

So now, we'll all be watching the numbers game
very carefully for modern Porsches sneaking in under the radar.

Meh, I'll take my chances.
