Both sides were as bad as each other and there are plenty of bones yet to be unearthed.

That said the thing Mandela did right was to realise that change had occurred and wipe the slate clean.

I very much doubt many other people would forgive and forget so comprehensively after so many years incarcerated and subjected to hard labour. Yes, many things done back in the day left a lot to be desired, but then neither side were, if you'll excuse the pun, whiter than white. I wonder what would have happened had Mandela not been released, and I could easily see it ending up like Zimbabwe, just the other way round.

There is far too much poverty in SA still, many shanty towns, where the blacks have been promised for years they'll have electricity and water, and it's still not happened, but it's ok for Zuma and all his wives to have mansions and a fleet of vehicles and live the high life. There is still a long way for the country to go, but without Mandela, then it wouldn't be the country it is today, and far far worse.

There's good and bad in everyone, and the good in Mandela far far outweighs the bad, even if that bad was being done for the belief of good.
