As a Volvo driver it's pure arrogance. I don't care who knows it. Ok.

I've noticed this as well. It's likely due to a: "Why should I "attitude.
I did the advanced test not long after the standard driving test, (the police organised it through the sixth form for free) and my instructor taught me never to signal unless there was someone who would benefit from the signal. That could be a motorist, pedestrian or cyclist. The point is to be always thinking ahead. We were also told never to use the indicator on the motorway,(other than when joining or exiting the motorway). The idea here was that if you needed to indicate to change lanes then you were too close to other motorists. This was 1988 remember and I suspect you would never get out of lane one in 2013.

One things for sure, there are some clueless sods on the road....

Phil P wrote:Apparently for Range Rovers and Volvo's the section on indicators is a suppliment that you have to pay for. I believe that the trucks belonging to Nobhead Dentyourangle have indicators that take 10 minutes to warm up. They then have to be left on for a further 10 minutes for them to stabilise. It is therefor easier for the driver to just make the manouvre as quickly as possible and let the following traffic indicate/take avoiding action as appropriate. An extended arm through the window of the following vehicle with a loosely clenched fist and moved in a reciprocating action usually indicates to the offender the lack of appreciation by the white faced driver who has just seen his life and a 40 foot trailor pass before him! You will find the arm/hand movement whilst not EC or DVLA/Vosa approved it is universal as is shouting 'tossaire'.

I hope the above may be of help in your future motoring.

   come to france everyone drives like that  aparrently roundabouts only date back a maximum of 30 years, & everyone uses the outside lane & get very cross with me when i pass them on the inside lane...as for indicators they are an optional extra on all french cars
& just dont get me started on the right priority

I like Paris, I visit at least twice a year but I am yet to see a car without a dent in it. Maybe that is why ;)

Watch them park, that will answer your question about dents on cars in Paris...

The strange thing is that I have been taking more notice of other cars since this thread was started and was surprised that every car I saw was actually signalling correctly! It's a bit different in town though - they are so busy weaving in and out to get along the two lanes that they haven't time to signal!

You don't have to hit a French car to put a dent in it you can do it with thought. I once had a Renault 14, I bought it after my own car was knicked and needed transport, that seemed to get dented just leaving in my garage overnight. It was brilliant with speed humps I could drive over them flat out...or to put another way, 35MPH. It didn't go fast enough to need indicators. My daughter never wanted me to give her a lift or pick her up from anywhere when I had that. :?

Sounds like a really good reason for all parents to drive one. Think how much quieter the roads would be between 8:30-8:50 and 3:00-3:30!
