Anyone own a london taxi (Fairway)

Here's the place to chat about all things classic. Also includes a feedback forum where you can communicate directly with the editorial team - don't hold back, they'd love to know what they're doing right (or wrong of course!)

The old fairway owners club web site and forum is now deceased. A new one has been started ...http://fairwayowners.freeforums.net/ For info and help and to keep in touch with other owners go and have a look.

 I don't own one yet but have been searching for a suitable example since 2007 so one day, that URL will be useful to me and to the other enlightened souls who've twigged on to just how practical these charismatic old things are. A few kitten register subscribers run Reliant Metrocabs as dailies, including a handful in Europe but I'm determined to go down the more traditional route when I eventually find my own retired Hack. Plastic Transits are ok, but sometimes, only the real thing will do. :)

have 2 brothers using london cabs. At 15 years old they can no longer be used in London. Despite high mileages achieved on the engines (nissan is decent). They are not actually designed for daily hosing down and rust as easily as other cars. Not best vehicles to drive for driver comfort, small boot, etc.
In short both brothers would sooner buy a mini than run an old taxi.

I've had mine a fair few years now it was one of the first to be pensioned off.Despite its propensity to rust it has proved very reliable and although slow and noisy it has proved handy for car boots, auctions and moving things about. I intend to hang on to it for as long as possible.

As the thread has been resurrected, if anyone is looking for a Fairway a mate of mine has one he'd be prepared to sell.

Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.
