I've never consciously looked inside the footwell of a C (I did look at a GT that was for sale many years ago….not bad shape for just £2495) but I never knew the floorpan was higher (I know they have torsion bar front suspension and 15" wheels). I must have a look when I next see a C

It's the bit under the seat that causes the problem, unsurprisingly

Thanks for all the replies so far. Tempted with the mgb gt v8, especially that v8 rumble, so will try one out for size in the coming weeks. May also look at a 944, but fancied something older, with chrome. Looks like I may not fit in a triumph after all, still it's worth a try. The missus said said wants to come and look too, for a laugh at least.

Yeah, freaks! Headroom is irrelevant if you're tall as surely that's measured between the seat base at its lowest setting to the roofcloth. The distance between the seat backrest and the pedal box at its furthest forward setting is more important as you wouldn't want to be cramped up under the steering column.

I'm 6'2" and can comfortably drive the Dolomite with its seat at full height and the steering wheel close in to the dash but as far vertically as it goes, however I also need the pedals as far away from the seat and the seat as far back as it goes since my inseam is a shade over 35". Look at the Alfasud; it has enough head room to allow for the essential porkpie titfer but if your inseam is above a short 31", you'd struggle to drive one comfortably. It's rarely just about the headroom.

Dan, my 944 is 29 years old (tomorrow!). don't tote that 'modern' exterior fool you, the early cars (no power anything) really are a classic drive. Also worth a look are Reliant Scimitars - especially with a manual box, I had two SE5A's, one manual and one auto - I eventually converted that one to manual.....both good long distance cars.
