I use it to chat with friends and family abroad. FB has it's uses but you definitely need to turn off all email notices otherwise you get an inbox full of rubbish!

Hello, I was going to ask a couple of questions about FB. I have been warned off using it because of security problems. The chap is on a forum that I use and is in security for something secret in the government ( so cant mention anything else.) It seems that you can set want you want and FB then moves the 'goal posts' then you are not as secure as you think.
I dont know, I did join about a year ago and before I had completed registering had a page full of people saying "We want to be your friend!!!!!!!!" I must say that that put me off and scared the hell out of me wondering what the heck had I got into.So my membership lasted a few minutes.
So is it actually secure and how do you make it so please? Any advice, brick bats or anything really. Would you mind making it simple please, not that computer literate and getting a bit slow.
Thank you very much.
Cheers.
Geoff.

FB can only "share" the information you put in to it.
I have minimal information on my profile so it as secure as it needs to be.
FB have in the past moved the goal posts and made information avaliable to the public domain. You can disable it all through the privacy settings on your profile page.
After getting themselves in to trouble last year they now have to notify you of any changes to their privacy policy before they implement it so you at least get notice they are going to publish your holiday snaps before they go ahead and do it (this is just an example).

For what it is worth... and not much II'll warrant...... I think Facebook is all well and good for effectivley ignoring everyone you know (but none that you don't want to) but given its strictly limited post length it really doesn't fit with the concept of an enthusiasts requirements.
Its frivalous and temporary and not worthy of your consideration, in this context. In my opinion.

Possibly, but how else can we find out what Stephen Fry had for his breakfast?
Whatever it was, he seems to have had some sort of allergic reaction to it:
