The Mopar additive is about 5 quid.
So do the maths.
The diff cover has no gasket silicon, sealer instead.
The Mopar additive does work. Does the Comma LSD stuff work.
The 35 axle is a known weak point of this vehicle.
My XJ axle is ok. I don't accelerate fast in low gears at low speed or go off road or tow anything heavier than 200kg. 200kg is not a typo.
Lets us know how you get on.
Bob.
I think the XJ is getting a bit of a following. Its almost becoming a classic. ALMOST. Mine has a 4000cc 6 in line petrol engine which IMO is better than a Rover V8 engine.
My lsd was squalking and grumbling a bit at intial take off up to about 2 mph.
One day I got a bit heavy footed going round a roundabout and the back stepped out a bit the LSD cut in and at the same time a deft flick on the helm to the port bought the wayward beast back on line. After that the diff is quiet.
I think the exercise cleaned the LSD clutch plates up.
So if the jeep is zigged zagged at say 10mph in 2 wheel drive across a slippery surface to cause the lsd to work it may be beneficial to keep the LSD smooth.
Or left hand side on grass and right hand on tarmac and do a few quick starts to 10mph.
No point in going faster because one wants the LSD to part lock. Fully locked won't clean the plates.
My roof lining is falling down and a wiper blade fell off.
In Dorset there are not many places one can go off road legally. I used to like my Suzuki SP 400. I got told off by the
Police for riding on heath land. So I sold the bike.
Well, all seems well, she was a bit graunchy from the rear end when I first drove her for the MOT and felt to be grabbing a little in corners so I was a bit concerned to say the least but she had been standing unused for at least 6 months.
Anyway, axle oil changed and she's a different beast, quiet and nice to drive with no bad behaviour in tight corners.
Fingers crossed it remains this way. No off roading for me if I can help it but I'm gambling we'll have some white stuff to play in before long.
