Hotmail

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Hotmail

#1 Post by Phil P »

Is anybody else out there having problems accessing their Hotmail account? I just get the message to say it's not available. Bloody computers! I hate the time wasting bastards. Do you think it knows that so I'm being jerked around by it? FBC.

Mine seems OK. I assume you are logging in via outlook.com rather than one of Microsoft's other portals.

I go in using google and then sign in. It has worked for 10 years that way. I'll just keep trying.

No problems getting into Hotmail here....

That seems a clunky way of getting to it Phil - I just get the log in page, add it to "Favourites" and go in from there every time.

Apparently the Hotmail site is unavailable. I can get into my account on my mobile but not online. I googled to see what what the problem might be and discovered 400 complaints from hotmail customers, so I added my three pennyworth!

Bizarre, I am on it now. Have you tried www.outlook.com rather than Hotmail.com (as Hotmail is dead and buried just diverted to outlook)

Yep. Still nothing. I can get it on my mobphone but nothing on line. I've lost Google as my default search and got ask. Somebody is pratting about hacking this and nobody is admitting it.

Hi Phil,
Nobody "hacks" domestic machines so don't worry about that. Anybody that knows how to do it will aim for bigger targets. Malware, scareware and spyware are fairly common but if you have an anti-virus that is up to date and only surf "normal" websites you are at 0 risk from them.

Ask is actually not a bad search engine but it does tend to get bundled with various "free" applications. It is very easy to change it back to Google. If you let me know which browser you are using I will post instructions.

If you are worried then a free application such as Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) https://www.malwarebytes.org/ will scan your machine for nasties and remove them. The free version is more than adequate so don't buy the premium one, you don't need it.

When you visit www.outlook.com what happens? do you get a page cannot be displayed error? if you are using internet explorer does the address bar turn green when you access the site?

Computers can be a pain sometimes but they can always be sorted out with some minor adjustment.

Avast is good and it has the options to clean/rest your browsers to restore it so to avoid someone
hijacking your browsers. And that is in the free version. Also try Malwarebytes which goes places some
don't, and it is also free.

Mother used both my pc and laptop and fed them a few viruses from downloading games!!! :x
