Oh well. :| At least Ed looks more serious about his game since he had the grey streaks put in his hair. Or did someone swap him for their David when we weren't looking?
Why does the letter refer to VED as "Road Tax" though? We civilians have an excuse to call it the "road tax" as we're lazy that way but should the next government not have it right? Maybe someone should ask them.

FFS! It's under £300 p/a for cars with large engines, if owners of 1975 vehicles do come to enjoy the concession in 2016, then does this not ease the way for the government to restrict the use of these vehicles? That has to happen as we've seen in Australia with its - fair, IMHO - system where old motors can be classified as Historic or owners can pay the full whack and use their cars every day and in Germany where older vehicles can be used but only if retro fit with catalytic converters at no small cost.
Old buses, Hacks and commercials in the UK aren't free to "tax" if they're in revenue earning service, a double blow for their owners but that's how it is, so maybe private individuals should be treated the same way? There are far larger costs involved with owning and using a car after all. ;)

I don't see why they should restrict their usage, any more than they would for a Band A vehicle.

Of course road tax via fuel would be a lot simpler, as then you pay for what you use but it seems that no matter how simple, those who govern us are yet more simple.

I will now make a suggestion to you Mr Evans to now do the same email that was addressed
to the labour party, but this time to the other political parties to see what their take will be
on this subject.

(I bet the greens will put tax on all vehicles to force us onto public transport)

Amazingly the greens are pro classic car and pro modified classic cars too! they want to see "upgradable" vehicles introduced so as technology improves you can upgrade your car rather than having to replace it with a new one.

Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

The Conservatives brought in tax exemption and have just reintroduced the rolling exemption, albeit from 40 years. It's pretty obvious where they stand. The Lib Dems are probably going to suffer at the next election but it might be worth seeing where they stand, though they are part of the government, so we may infer that they are not too hostile (Lord Steel is a classic car man). I have a feeling UKIP support the exemption but I would need to check. I think Plaid Cymru want all handbooks printed in Welsh but are finding they don't have words for most of the component parts of a car, though I suspect Phlastig potel may suffice for washer bottle  :!:

As to the Greens, they are in favour of re cycling and what is running an old car, if not that :?: Maybe they are naive to expect cars to be upgraded, with all the latest gizmos. For one thing, the failure of said gizmos is often what renders cars uneconomic to repair, so the key to it is simplicity. The other issue is usage and if you can cut usage, you reduce the wear and tear. This is partly why I cycle to work.

Good for them - they actually appear to understand the true environmental impact of new cars.
