ford galaxy

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

 Rich, is this noise happening when you're alone in the car or only when you have passengers?

"Home is where you park it", so the saying goes. That may yet come true..

Ot only makes the noise on full lock or it makes it the whole time you are parking or just when you are turning the wheel while parking?

does the belt look warn? I suspect you will have to take the belt off to check the idler pulley bearings unless there is better access than I remember to get a screwdriver / probe to it when the engine is running to listen to them.

I do all of mine annually when I give the cars a go over pre-MOT but 3700 miles doesn't seem like a lot for a belt. I have had problems previously with belt squeal after a coolant leak. I'm not sure what it did to the surface of the rubber, it looked fine but sounded dreadful.
If you have a long screwdriver try listening to each set of bearings you can get at but as you say the noise is worse on full lock, it is almost certainly the pump / rack, possibly contaminated fluid. when was the last time you changed it? does it smell burnt?
