I have a 2001 Ford Mondeo MK3 with a Ford 6000RDS radio/CD player in it. I have tried finding out if I can get an iPod connector but with no luck so hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction.
Google searches seem to show that only models with a AUX button can have an iPod plugged into them, but although mine doesnt have this, it says on the front it is CD Changer compatible and in the back is a green 12 (I think) pin socket for this. eBay has some wires that say they will work but they are at least £30 which for a peice of wire and a plug to me seems expensive and I dont want to spend that and find it doesnt work.
Does anyone have any idea if I can get a conversion wire or system for sensible money and minimum hassle?

I replaced a 6000 with a 6006 in my focus (so i had 6 cds in the dash and didn't have to crawl on the floor to change them), there is no aux in on the 6000 but there is an input for a CD changer. The wiring should be in place regardless of model and you can get a changer to put under the passinger seat.
I can send you a pic of the rear of the unit and the multi-plug for the changer if you like.
I use an mp3 player in mine with a cigarette lighter powered adapter that tunes in to about 93fm.
Ford factory radios with iPod connectivity are only avaliable for the 2005- model cars as they are a slightly different shape.

Thanks Terry, so it looks like I have an option for a changer but not an MP3 player yes?

Keeping within the factory parts, yes.
You can always buy a face adapter and fit a standard single DIN stereo if you want to go down that route. I have a sony one in my range that has a space inside it for your ipod / bluetooth so it can talk to the phone in your pocket and play music from that.
My 6006 (which i much prefer to the 6000 as it saves reaching under the seat to change CD) cost £40 from a breakers yard 4/5 years ago. It was standard on all 2001-2004 Focus / 2002-2005 Mondeo Ghia models

That was as in: Yes, there's a leadout crossover available. How long and what colour you want it are up to you. The line level is a match which is what counts here.

So I CAN connect an iPod to it then? Where can i get this lead for a reasonable price? eBay wants £30 at least for them....

Passion Audio (GIYF, no links as I'm at work) will supply most and can also sell the bits for you to make your own, but it'll still cost over a tenner for the required parts and the eBay price doesn't seem excessive considering how fiddly it is and that there's not an automated method.

Re: 2001 Mondeo iPod compatibility?
I'd do what I did with my Mondeo, bin the factory HU, and fit an aftermarket unit with ipod connectivity. The facia plates are cheap enough off evilbay. If you want you can buy an autoleads kit to be able to keep the steering wheel remote if the HU supports it too.
