Agreed John, we were pleasantly surprised at the £12 cab fare to be honest. It cost me £17 for a 15 minute taxi ride on the same morning from where I live in Greenside down to Newcastle Central Station, so having paid that earlier on the same day, I was expecting something stupid from the Black Cab. We'd also asked him to take us to Vauxhall station, but he knew that the train we needed would be from the closer Waterloo station, which also saved us a few bob. Good man!JPB wrote:Twelve Quid's not too sharp for a black cab in the capital. It costs £15 to come from Ashington back out to Ellington (less than a six mile trip) in a shagged-out, J-plate Sierra or Kia something-or-other at 11pm, stone-cold sober and with no rivers to cross nor any traffic lights, dual carriageway or roundabouts with more than one exit to be negotiated.
£35 for a train ride doesn't seem too bad at all, I may buy another car from down that way some time just to give me an excuse for the journey.

Yep, top bloke for knowing about the trains, but then London cabbies are full of useful knowledge (yes, and dodgy political views in some cases).
I can't help thinking that if I asked a local taxi bloke to take me to Vauxhall Station, he'd head straight for the petrol pumps at Bristol Street Motors.

Re: Geordie's Nissan Sunny's
Bit of an update. I don't have the Sunny Coupe anymore.
An opportunity came up to swap it for a 1991 3rd Generation Honda Prelude (the type with the pop up headlights), and I thought, well, in for a penny, in for a pound.
Well, bearing in mind the Sunny coupe had a knackered master brake cylinder, and a couple of other small issues, I'm not too disappointed when I find myself now without the Prelude, which turned out to have a few too many tatty areas for me to devote time and cash into. Good thing is, I have sold the Prelude for a small profit, and pick up a modern day classic in a fortnight. It's not a Honda, but 'part' Honda. I guess some people might have a good idea from that. I'll post up what I get when I collect it.
No worries on the other Sunny's though. They are going nowhere!
