Dartford "crossing"

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Dartford "crossing"

#1 Post by john-saab »

I know it doesn't affect anyone North of Watford Gap  but the M25 crossing at Dartford has become a joke..I waited 2 1/2 hrs to cross just due to congestion last week..it's not unusual to wait for over 1/2 hr to cross and then they charge you for it .
I have had enough and was going to write to the DOT but i'm guessing that would be a waste of time, I know many are sceptical about the goverment E-petitions but if enough of a fuss is made then they HAVE to listen. Someone has started a petition...I signed it..just a few thousand more and it might work.

Don't get me started on that :x When the crossing was first built, the then Conservative government promised that tolls would be scrapped when it was paid for. The crossing was paid for in 2003, but the Labour government, always ready to screw more taxes out of the motorist, placed a new contract to collect the tolls instead. There was recently a proposal to increase the toll to £2.50, but I believe that has been shelved. There is also talk of building another crossing. We don't need one though, don't the idiots in charge of us understand that all they have to do to relieve congestion is remove the toll booths? It is adding insult to injury to have money collected after waiting all that time in a traffic jam. I've signed the petition and I hope a lot of other people will too.

Just off out onto our under populated roads 8-), I think its busy if theres two cars in front of me at the lights, just one roundabout and five sets of lights or therabouts in the entire county I believe, such hardship we have up North
