Selling on Ebay

#1 Post by Ricardo »

Hi,

Thinking of selling my Mk2 Mini Cooper in need of full restoration. Whats peoples opinions on selling on Ebay? Have sold a modern car on Ebay in the past but took 3 listings to get past timewaters and morons, just wondered if its improved............

When selling i use a starting price rather than a reserve i hear the fees are bigger for a reserve auction,That's another thing fees :x i sold a compressor for £100, £10 of that went in fees and more when it had gone via paypal.
Dont except anything other than cash for a car sale (or any other if you can help it) charge backs are all to common these days and then your money and stuff is lost.
It can be worth it especialy if a few people are fighting it out over it.

NO! I'd try every other means available before using that place again.

When I "sold" my Quattro on there the winning bidder didn't respond to messages, 2nd chance offer and neither of the other two bidders were interested either. I ended up selling it to a bloke that walked past and offered me £1200 for it cash on the spot while I was washing it for some more pics.
Annoyingly 6 weeks after the close of the auction the winning bidder contacted me and asked me if I still had the car as he had the money now. Too many people don't understand how auctions work.
On the other side of the coin I sold a Range Rover on there about a year later, 2 people came to view, the 2nd one came the morning the auction closed, viewed the car and sat in his for 2 hours bidding on his mobile, paid cash and took the car.
It swings and roundabouts. If you do have something unusual then eBay (or another auction house) is the way to go. If it is a "normal" car then autotrader is better.
For your cooper I would suggest advertising on one of the specialist websites or minmag (PC's classifieds are good too)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

Unless you have something unusual and you don't really know what its worth use anything other than ebay for all the reasons listed above.

I find ebay great for buying but not good for selling now with ther fees the way they are and you also have very little protection.

I never seemed to be able to get hooked on Ebay - don't buy from there, don't sell. To be honest, I find a lot of the things on Amazon are basically the same price as Ebay and you can buy them immediately, instead of wait and bid, and I have more confidence in Amazon anyway.
