A mate from the Toyota club refuses to own an MR-2 because he reckons everything is so inaccessible. I told him to try working on a Rover Mini SPi with Air Con one day and then report back.

My MR2 hasn't gone wrong so far. :)

Thanks for reminding me why I like tractors more than cars! It took less than half an hour to replace a dynamo the last time I did one - and a lot of that time was finding the spanners!!

I was intending to put a photo here to really depress you but, as is typical, I can't find a decent photo of the LH side of the smaller tractor or one of the RH side of the bigger one!

well it came off in a couple of hours, mostly spent time looking for the bolts.. i had to take off the aircon belt too as the belts are a bit worn. i spent more time washing the birds##t off, we have swallows nesting in the shed.. cute but they make an awful mess, mostly on my car.

Mmm, swallows. I'm told that they taste like chicken.

well ive fitted it, mine is the model with air con & i will admit it was a tight fit it wasnt too bad
ill give you a quick description...
jack up car & remove rear wheel & axle stand
spend half an hour looking for leadlamp, give up & think ill manage
put alternator mounting frame in via the underside of the car, roll it over the driveshaft.
drop alternator in from above..
juggle with frame & alternator until frame is in place. trap finger & bump head on sump drain bolt.
tighten 3 bolts & 2 nuts clamping frame to engine
juggle with alternator again until its nearly in position, get an eye full of crud
spend another half an hour looking for bl##dy lead light give up & use crappy torch which only seems to shine in my now one good eye
push long bolt through frame & alternator curse mildly when it wont screw into thread. jiggle it swear & screw another 14mm bolt through backwards to line it up
fit top bolt pop on belt adjust tighten everything up
fit aircon belt & adjust...
refit side panel & wheel & finally battery..
run car
clear all the tools from behind the car so i can get it out of garage
take car for a spin with the roof off...
as cars go its not that cramped. :D
