Re: What is the ideal pre-1960 daily driver in your opinion?

Ah yes but you do get all the other bonuses of driving a classic daily; I already drive a '71 vehicle on a daily basis.

I was really just playing devils advocate, and trying to look at the Governments new MOT ruling in a different light..

I think you could happily tool around for 10 miles a day in ...

What is the ideal pre-1960 daily driver in your opinion?

As I drove into work today in my 1971 VW, I was enjoying my tax free motoring. It is certainly more painless than my 1994 "modern" Golf which failed its MOT this week, and will require a few quid and a few of my man hours to sort out.

Continuing this line of thought I realised the ideal solution is ...

Off topic completely - my new record is released June 4th!

Hi Guys,

This is totally unrelated to cars or tyres.. but I thought you may be interested in how I spend my time when not thigh deep in classic rubber!

Most of my time is spent as a musician.. I have a band called Thinker (www.thinkermusic.co.uk) and I write as a songwriter and session musician ...

Re: Classictyres.com - Hi!

Just that the larger diameter gives you a bit more flexibility to help stretch the tyre on. I expect you would be able to get them up ok but it would be outside the manufactures recommendations.

Different manufactures do differ a bit on rim recommendations - I wouldn't say your 5x15s are ...

Re: Classictyres.com - Hi!

We have the Vredestein Sprint Classics in stock if these are the ones you are after - they have a higher speed rating (H-130mph rather than S-113mph) than original and a classic appearance. They are £113.40 incl VAT with free UK mainland carriage.

Otherwise, the more budget tyres have dried up a ...

Re: Classictyres.com - Hi!

There are a couple of problems - whilst Michelin do make the 205/70R15 in their XDX pattern, it is kept alive for a classic Alpine performance car (I forget which) and made in tiny batches - and therefore very expensive at £285 +VAT each...

Also in 13" 205 is a bit on the wide side for 5.5" - for ...

Re: Classictyres.com - Hi!

Thats a tricky one I am afraid - 13" radials have become much less available recently. There are a lot of Ford guys who like the wider 13" sizes like 225/60R13 as well who are struggling!

With 5.5" rims you cant really go much wider than 195, so even though Michelin do make a 205/70R13 it would be ...

Re: All pre-1960 cars to no longer need an MOT - a good thin

Thinking about it, I think it may all be null and void in the long run - as you can still put in for an MOT "on a voluntary basis" and insurance companies are always looking to minimise risk, surely what will happen is that Insurers will refuse to insure without a valid MOT. So all cars will still ...
