ford galaxy
Re: ford galaxy
The 1.9TDI 130 is actually really quite nippy, and was the quickest of the range for a while. Even the 115 is acceptable, so I think you'll enjoy the 130. I've never driven a standard 1.9 TDI Galaxy, the only one I've driven is an ex-police gun squad one with just 19k miles, and it certainly seemed very quick. Excellent car, and I hope you enjoy yours!
Re: ford galaxy
i drove a friends tdi 90 & that was fast enough, but ill let you know as im coming over to pick it up tomorrow..
Re: ford galaxy
we have a galaxy, drove from london to the forest of dean, then from there to newhaven/dieppe then to home... amazed on how much stuff it will carry & its so comfy. wifey is pleased she can get in it so much easier than the audi, (shes 20 weeks pregnant) putting our 19 months old daughter in is just so much easier although wifey struggles a bit as shes a bit short
now i can blag her for a classic sports car

Re: ford galaxy
We bought one a few months back, p'xd my lovely Saab, as baby number 3 is on her way and its okay- Not going to set the world alight but very roomy, reasonably economical and comfortable to boot.
Only "complaint" is that a sidelight bulb has gone- easy enough to change then, err no. Its accessed via a slide down panel in the inner wings plastic covering: Unfortuneatly my hands are too big to fit into the hole so i still have no sidelight - Will drop the whole liner out when I get time!
Still miss by 9-5 Aero though....................

Re: ford galaxy
Interestingly no one has pointed out that the original models were all built in the same plant by the same people - it being a joint venture between Ford and VW!!
Always made me laugh to hear people say they had had bought the VW model and not the Ford "because the German engineering is so much better" - VW did the body in white and Fords did the trim and final assembly; the bodies coming through to the final assembly area always required rework.....

Does the nameplate make a difference in resale values?RangerNeil wrote:Always made me laugh to hear people say they had had bought the VW model and not the Ford "because the German engineering is so much better" - VW did the body in white and Fords did the trim and final assembly; the bodies coming through to the final assembly area always required rework.....
Toyota and Holden had a tie-up in the late-80s and early 90's here. The Holden Apollo was a rebadged Toyota Camry and the Holden Nova was a rebadged Corolla. They were all made in the Toyota factory and the only difference was grilles, badges, paint and trim colours. Yet the Toyota badged versions always had better resale.
On the flip side the Toyota Lexcen was rebadged Holden Commodore, both made in the Holden plant, again with minimal differences. The Toyota version had nicer trim, but bogans prefer their Holdens with a Holden badge, so the Toyota version had lousy resale!

Re: ford galaxy
To be honest I've no idea!! I suspect the VW versions probably will have a higher value because of the "German engineering" that the sales people from VW and BMW have inculcated into the UK Populace.
I can recall, though, body shells coming into the Final Assemble areas with zero panel gaps one side and gaps big enough to stick a finger in the other - and the VW operation getting stroppy over being taken to task for this.. Part of the reason that when the deal expired the two companies went their separate ways....

Re: ford galaxy
When we were looking for ours it was readily apparant that the VW version does indeed hold its value better - around £500 more than the identical Ford model but the Seat version is about £500 less again.
If thats doesnt prove we Brits are easily led thenthis may -
Back in the late 80's I was working for a family run Ford Dealership - imagine our reaction when the Which Ownership survey stated that Escort was a complete pile of poo - Rubbish dealers, crap build quality, rough engines - you name it and it was wrong and or rubbish, I think it finsihed third from boottom in that survey.
Second from top, however, was the Orion a paragon of virtue apparantly,
But, as we all know, they were identical in everyway the only difference being the back end
We had a thoery that Orions were owned by private customers where Escorts tended to be fleet hacks - any other theory welcomed.
