Mg Metro 1300

#1 Post by Mattcortes » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:04 pm

Hi, I have recently bought a 1 owner 1988 MG Metro 1300 mk2 and as I removed the wheels to adjust the handbrake found that the inner wheel arches on both sides are a distant memory. Does anyone know anywhere that sells these panels? Can't find any! Not ammused. Please help I'm sick of people telling me that it should just be used as a donor for a mini. Thanks, Matt

Tried to check carpanels.co.uk, but its down at the moment.

You're in the same position as me at the moment, except I'm stitching together a Nissan. You may well have to rebuild them piece by piece like I'm looking at doing.

Stock up on cornflake packets: You're gonna need them for templates
Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound

I take it that your reffering to the rear arch's?

I'm afraid its a "build it yourself job"

Front inner wings can sometimes be obtained through auction sites, and rear outer repair sections are available , but rear inners I have never seen.

Yeah I was fearing as much, I haven't taken the wheels off and had a good look yet but do you know if they are double skinned or are they just single?

Thanks for confirming about the parts situation.

Last time I did one I did the following.

Trim out all rust.
Treat all area's.
Repair section by section with new steel.
Treat new steel with cure rust (or similar)
double "Skin" of Glass fibre to seal and then stone chip / paint.

I use the glass fibre to minimise the chance of crap getting in a rotting the area again.

The rear arch's on all ARG cars of this age a well known for rear arch rot due to the build up of crap.

Cheers Mal that was roughly what I was thinking but without the Glassfibre. That could be a really good tip. As the arch is double skinned was going to use weld through primer as well just to be cautious.

Carpanels.co.uk is back. You can get panels for the metro, but inner wheel arches? Nope. Closest you'll get is a rear outer wing, or some wheel arches.

Nissan parts? I'm in the same position as you. Rear inner arches for A Nissan Sunny Coupe. Rarer than poultry dentures, so cut and patchwork for me.

Thanks for the thought though

Most annoying thing was I was watching something on the Discovery channel the other day and it apears its far easier to get parts for a Boeing 747 either new or used than it is to get Metro inner rear arches lol.
