Re: Lets talk roof racks

I have nice old racks for use on my old cars when required; if I got a rack for my less-old gutterless car, it would have to be of the appropriate style because trying to fit anything else would likely require surgery to the car as well as the rack.

Re: dvd

I have one you hang, and I think it's perfectly safe - as it can leave the car when I do! ;) it can also be moved between cars, which is very handy.

I don't really use mine... Could be persuaded to part with it :)

Re: Any solicitors on here?

There is no "case" as such, but there can still be an investigation.

Re: car tax and sorn

That's not quite accurate Rob; pre-SORN vehicles are flagged as unlicenced but not due for renewal, which is different to being SORN. If any car changes hands then it has to be declared SORN by the new owner as soon as possible regardless of its previous status as SORN supposedly isn't transferable ...

Re: Criticism and Praise for the Police

There's all kinds of whys & wherefores. You don't know what the problem was with the first vehicle; it could have been immobilised by internal faults that would have rendered towing impossible, or at least inadvisable. Last time a 3.5T truck carrying half a dozen portaloos broke down near me it was ...

Re: Cleaning a block?

Not wishing to point out the obvious, but you can't get "rust" on aluminium ;) There's likely to be some oxidisation already present which will stop the surfaces being too reactive, but I can't see any way of avoiding more whether you use water or not; ally is terribly volatile when it's not in a co...

Re: Battery post wear & tear

Similar ideas have been considered, I'll have to see how long such cables can reliably be & see if that's compatible with the location. Luckily the site is south-facing - finally a break!

Re: car tax and sorn

You get a reminder a month before it's due, and another a month after warning you that if it doesn't happen "soon" (7 days? end of the month? can't remember or find one atm) then you'll get fined. This second letter has been active for at least a year as I've had it happen twice.

No, no window - and unless I was able to visit it daily, I don't think I'd want one with a window anyway ;)
